Has anyone had any experience with clomid and had multiple births as a result? ? I would like to have multiple births and I heard that clomid can help women who have trouble with fertility (I've had 2 miscarriages and I'm 32) and it also increases the chance of multiple births. How long do you have to be on clomid for it to work? And how much is clomid (ball park average, I live in the southeast U.S.) Thanks to everyone in advance! Congrats Krome on your pregnancy! Thank you for your answer and God bless. Good luck! :-)

krome replied: "I know clomid does increase the chances of multiple babies, but it's still not very high chances. I used one round of clomid (5 pills = $20 and I live in NC) That's all I needed and I am pregnant! It's only one baby though :)"

What's the chances of multiple births if I take Clomid and I don't have fertility problems? I am ttc with a donor and my doctor feels that my chances are better with Clomid. However, I have a child and never have experienced fertility problems before. It didn't take last cycle so I'm trying Clomid this time. Am I at risk for a multiple pregnancy?

David M replied: "no greater with clomid"

mamabear replied: "yes but a very small risk"

tryingforbaby2 replied: "I am doing the same thing....TTC with donor. I had my first IUI 7-2 but I think I am getting ready to start my period. I did take clomid the first time. From everything that I read your chances of multiplies go up only 10%. Most cases with Clomid and multiples you get twins. My doctor told me that the highest he has ever seen is triplets. Good luck!!!!"

can clomid cause multiple births? My husband and I have a nearly 3 year old little boy and are having trouble conceiving this time around. We have been ttc for just over 1 1/2 years now and after talking with my OBGYN yesterday I am considering clomid, but I am wondering if it raises the chances of a multiple birth pregnancy. We did want 3 children, but we wanted to have them spaced out a little. I am not going to say that I don't want twins or more, but it is a lot of work especially when there is already 1 or more children in the family. But I am also not exactly saying that I am hoping for multiples either. My husband was joking, I hope, the other day saying that if the next pregnancy is twins or worse, more, we would have to start visiting him at the mental hospital. I have a friend, a single mother with identical twin boys so I know how hard it can be at times, but I do have a good family support system from both of our families. And I am not all that worried about the money either as we have always managed. I haven't started taking it yet, I have some more blood tests to do first, but it was a first option given by my OBGYN yesterday when I went to see her.

starfire978 replied: "Clomid is used to increase the number of eggs that are released each cycle. So yes if more then one egg is released then each of those eggs are able to be fertilized at one time."

Doodlestuff replied: "About 4 years ago, the rate of multiples using clomid was 11%. Some doctors now consider cutting the lowest dose pill in half and using that. On the sad side, the rate of loss of twins is 11-13% over singletons."

Sarah replied: "I have twins. Mine were concieved without fertility drugs. Twins are not that bad. People ask me all the time how we do it. We just do. We don't have any other kids. Twins are generally more patient kids because they have to share mommy's time from the beginning."

Heather T replied: "First and foremost, I have been on clomid more times than you can count. Here is the deal with clomid. Clomid will increase the chance of having multiples ever so slightly....but only if you were going to ovulate on your own at the same time as taking a clomid cycle. And that will happen ever so rarely. Clomid is given when you do not ovulate as needed, so the chance of you ovulating despite the clomid would be a rare case. Clomid only increases your chance of twins by less than 10% over the national average...so when the national average, without clomid, is about 3% those chances are very slim. Basically clomid help your body ovulate, and in general, helps you release one egg. If you are on injectables, the number can increase up to 3 eggs at a time. Hope this info helps!!! Heather"

Sara D replied: "The way Clomid was described to me (and I took it for about a year and a half altogether) is this- in a normal cycle without Clomid, one ovary takes over, produces a great egg, and the second ovary backs off when it realizes the first ovary is handling the job. Clomid, however, talks to both ovaries throughout the cycle, they both try to produce the winning egg and often you will get an egg on each side. The chances for twins is about 6-10% (you have to remember that each healthy egg has about a 20 to 25% chance of conceiving and producing a baby) and triplets or more is less than 1%. If you really want another baby, and twins wouldn't be the end of the world, I say go for it- those are pretty small odds and well worth the risk."

Prisillla68 replied: "My husband is a twin, and his mother tells me it was easier raising the twins, than raising her older son. Although it was work in the beginning, they entertained each other and played together, which made it much easier on her. Today, they are very close. I think you should take the clomid, and consider yourself double blessed if it is twins...best of luck"

Tiara replied: "I was in your situation last year, after 1 1/2 years of trying for my 2nd my doctor gave me clomid, and told me there is a 20% chance of twins, it's not really a high chance, I got pregnant after one round of clomid, so it really helped and with only one baby. good luck."

chiquita11 replied: "I believe that with the right dosage of Clomid the chances of multiples could decrease, you should ask an RE (fertility specialist ) you can ask online for free and give them this info and see what they think, try good luck!"

mommy_2_liam replied: "While taking clomid does increase the risk of a multiple birth...it also depends on teh dose. The lower the dose the lesser the chances."

Multiple births from Clomid? How many people who took Clomid had multiple births?

Mom of 4 replied: "Many. Look it up under the drug manufacturers website, the statistics are accurate there."

Betina, Lily's mommy! replied: "I took Clomid for 6 months with no results. My doc said there was a 20% chance of having twins if it worked, though. However, a year later a miracle happened and I got pregnant on my own. I'm now 32 weeks preggo with a baby girl. Good luck!"

judy replied: "I did not. I kind of wanted twins. :-) I had one beautiful, healthy baby boy."

mama replied: "i know 4 ppl who took it and all 4 had multiples....some more than others."

Clomid and Multiple Births. I want to know if anyone who has taken clomid.? . I want to know if anyone who has taken clomid has gotten prego with more than one child. If so how many and what dosage were you on?.

monalisa three replied: "yes i took 1 dose and i was diagnosed with hyperstimulation so please take clomid only if ur dr suggest it,as hyperstimulation can be very life threatning,in it ur overy produces around 50 eggs at a go which can lead to the bursting of the ovary,so please be carefull"

Ashley H replied: "I only got pregnant with one. Sadly it didn't stick so we're trying again after waiting about 6 months. The chances of having multiples on clomid only go up maybe 2-3 percentage points."

Multiple births on Clomid? I'm on Metformin right now. My doctor wants to see me in two months to check and see if I've ovulated. He wants to give the Metformin time and see if I can get pregnant by using it only (I have PCOS) He did say there was a risk of multiple births when taking Clomid. He said there were more cases of twins than he could count but in his 23 years he had two patients on Clomid that had triplets! My husband and I want a baby, but I'm not so sure we want 3 at one time! Two might be okay...but even still, I'd like to have one. I want to hear from other women who have been on Clomid and find out if you conceived 1, 2 or 3 children. Please, if you haven't been on Clomid or know someone very close to you that has, don't bother answering. All I want to know is how common twins and triples are when using Clomid. Thanks.

F.i.e.r.c.e. replied: "I don't believe in infertility drugs. If it's not meant to be, then it's not meant to be. People should stop playing God, in my opinion."

amuse4you replied: "after a month on Clomid, my sister-in-law conceived triplets, and right after they were born, she became pregnant with another, so that made 4 kids under 2 years old. i would check into the incidence of autism in children with mothers who have taken fertility pills -- seems to me that many of the people I know who have used fertility meds have at least one child with autism. Some have more than one. This could be sheer coincidence - but it's just something that struck me as curious."

AB11 replied: "hi there! I know a lot about clomid. If you have any more questions about anything about it feel free to email me. It doesn't increase your chances by a significant amount. My doc said only 5%-10% more chance of having multiples. I am pretty sure that includes all multiples. But you chances of triplets or more are far less. I took clomid with my daughter and only conceived her. I am currently ttc#2 and I took clomid this month. I am smack in mid cycle so I don't have any stats as of yet."

waiting for baby replied: "I have taken Clomid but only for 5 days I will not be taken anymore I was on it because I have 3 months of Lupron the cause my periods to stop when I my finally come back I was given Clomid to help me ovulate now it has been 11 days since I last took Clomids I am hoping that I will be preg the thing is the chance of you having twin or triples is about 2% to 15% so don't let that scare you to try and note that the other side effect are bad I was a bich I lost my temper my husband have surgery and I was horrid to him, (he was impossible but I was not supportive ) girl worried more about these other side effects then the chances of you have mutiples Goodluck"

Has anyone produced multiple eggs on clomid? I recently started using clomid to help get preg. I have PCOS. In the 1st month I produced 8 perfect folicles, but had to call it off because of the risk of multiple births. I have to do sono's once a week. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Thanks

Amy replied: "I always had multiples, but never 8. More like 3."

Friend-OR-Foe You Choose replied: "I am hoping to get twins when I start clomid in Jan. But 8 would be an awful lot!"

sarah jane replied: "The most I ever had was three. Have you talked to your doctor about trying another drug, or reducing your dose? If you had 8 in one month, I would imagine you will continue to have that many, and Clomid might not be the right choice for you. Definitely talk to your doctor about what other approaches you can try- Clomid is not for everyone, and you don't want to stay on it too long if it's going to continue to stimulate you at that level."

Do you have a higher chance of getting multiple births using a higher dose of clomid? I w ant to correct someones comment about using clomid. Does clomid help you release more eggs or it helps you release an egg. And is it true that the higher dose you use the more chance of getting multiple eggs released?

myfirstbaby replied: "No. I asked an expert about it and he said that this is no true."

moonzappie77 replied: "Higher doses of clomid dosn't not increase your chances of multiples."

pretty replied: "IM A DOCTOR!!!.. ITS NOT TRUE!!.. ITS NOT THE CLOMID!!.. ITS THE GINSENG!!!!!!!..."

HeatherC-P replied: "I have been told that it doesn't increase the chance of multiple births. Good luck."

PLEASE ANSWER I'm neverous!! What's the multiple birth rate for someone on Clomid, Menopur and Ovidrel? My fertility doctor prescribed me fertility drugs to get pregnant; Clomid 150mg(5 days worth), Menopur 75IU(just 1 box of 5 shots),and Ovidrel 250mc (just 1 shot). And I know the mulitple birth rate percentage of each drug, but I'm wondering if the percentages are suppose to be added up w/each drug to make a higer percentage rate?! Please tell me if this is the case or not. Thank you! I need to know so I can decide whether to move to another apt or a house depending on the mulitple rate percentage is what will determine my decison! My lease for my apt is up in a few months so I wanna be prepared! Thanks everyone for your advice, I called my dr. & he said w/meds I'm on the total multiple birth rate odds are 18%. So if anyone out there is curious about w/this med combo what the multiple birth rate is it's 18% approximatly.

Jennifer replied: "I really don't know how high the chances are but I would say on your house situation to just sign a year lease. Because you would only have to live cramped up for a few months if you do have more than one.(Even if you get pg this month) I think you are just planning way too far ahead. You are building yourself up too much. Just relax a little. Baby Dust!"

thinking of you ; ) replied: "just ask the doctor he can tell you exactly what your looking for and then he could help in determining if you need to move or not"

sarah jane replied: "I think you're getting ahead of yourself- relax and get pregnant first, then worry about planning for a house. As the first answer said, you would only be in cramped quarters for a few months, and infants don't need that much space anyway- if you had twins they would be in the same room for the first few years!"
